As a Christmas present, Robin Gardener Barton and my boys gave me a writers workshop through the continuing education program at SC State University.
I love being a part of SC State, for it connects me to an Historically Black College and University and helps me integrate into and learn from their community of scholars and writers.
I thought you might like to see into my writing process as I work through this workshop.
This is a writing activity called LOOPING.
In this activity, you set a timer and free write for 5 minutes.
You find 4 words that are meaningful to you from your free write.
Then you free write for 5 minutes each about those 4 words.
The hope is that you can build a story from those 4 meaningful words.
They’re a foundation for a longer work.
My 4 words are border, dust, flip-flops and stethoscope.
I’m looking forward to seeing what I can build from them.
