Letter to the Editor - The Greenville News

I wrote this letter to the editor that appeared in The Greenville News

Thank you to everyone who offered warm clothes and warm shelter to migrants dropped off in front of the Vice President’s house in Washington, DC on the coldest night of 2022, Christmas Eve.

Sen. Graham, Sen. Scott and South Carolina Representatives, get to work legislating ways to reform our broken immigration system and provide humanitarian relief for people seeking asylum.

Stop criminalizing immigration.

Stop playing games with people’s lives.

Your words and actions, especially yours, Sen. Graham, have consequences that hurt some of the most vulnerable people around us.

South Carolinians, there is a church on every corner (sometimes two or three) in our cities, towns and communities.

Remember the Advent season you just celebrated.

Make the words spoken in those celebrations real for today.

“And they brought her firstborn son in a bus from the border on the coldest night of the year, and wrapped him in warm clothes and laid him in a warm bed, because there was room for them…”

In God’s name, make room for them.
