Notes from Public School - Day 60

Neveyah is one of my students.

She is a quintessential inner-city kid.

I call her "Yay Yah."

That's a good name for her, because I cheer for her each and every day.

"Yay Yah!" I shout out during Reading, Social Studies and Writing. "You can do it!"

This afternoon, she finished a story she's been writing for me.

Ah, if you only knew her, you'd know how proud of her I am of this work.

"Yay Yah," I said, "You are now a PUBLISHED AUTHOR! May I share your story with my friends?"

It might be a cloudy, rainy day outside today, but her smile at those words made the sun shine inside my classroom.

Here is her story.

                             My Dog Razz

Bark! Bark! Meow Meow! My name is Razz. Let me tell you a little about me. I have light brown eyes , light brown fur, straight ears and a wet nose. My favorite toy is a dog toy that is shaped like a bone.

Let me tell you what I dislike. I don’t like baths, to be in the house all the time, and crowds.

Let me tell you about my family. My favorite person is the little girl named Neveyah, because she lets me sleep with her and her brother. I love Rylan and Keyden. I love when they let me kiss them on the lips. I am their favorite dog.
