Notes from public school - Day 38

Sometimes, I write acrostic poems.

If I write one using the letters of my name, I start with T - Tenderhearted.

There’s a poem I love (it’s not an acrostic, it’s free verse) by Ellen Bass. “The World Has Need Of You” is it’s title.

One question in that poem stays right beside me.

I think about it every day.

“What if,” she asks, “You felt the invisible tug between you and everything?”

I do.

I particularly felt that invisible tug today.

Nashly, one of my beautiful, ingenious, wonderful, courageous students from Latin America, is moving to a new school.

We created a book for her as a way to say goodbye.

I’m putting pictures of each page we made so you can see the tenderheartedness of my students, so you can be encouraged by the fact that there are 9 and 10 year olds who feel the invisible tug, too.

I’m encouraged.

Tenderheartedness is alive and well in our stone cold, hurting world.

I love all of the pages.

Nashly made the cover.

Look at Jhoan’s beautiful butterfly.

Listen to Danny’s wonderful words.

Feel the love.

All in a day in public school.
